The Colombo View
is a house built with a unique concept located in the heart of
Rajagiriya in 20.6 perches. In the year of its origin, it won the 2nd Best Design in 2002. It was designed by the award winning architect Kumudu Munasinghe, who was later ranked one of the Best 20 Architects in the World.
It brings
out a fortress look from the outside with earthy colors. A traditional
look is brought out with walls in the house giving a rough clay finish
and ‘railway sleepers’ crafted to the curved stair case in the hall with
its natural wooden touch. It also has an original Egyptian chandelier
added with a classy black sofa set and a custom made teak tree root,
glass top dining table.
The house
is two stories high with a roof top that looks upon the entire city of
Colombo. Its beauty can be experienced during sunrise, sunset and
moonlight while enjoying a dip in the Jacuzzi (detached and provided to
set as the owner wishes). The rooftop also has a terrace which is
perfect for any occasion which is built with a traditional ‘patherippu’
type roof.
The master
bed room of the house has a built in air conditioner and fan along with
a private balcony. It also has a TV lobby, office table space and a bed
area for a 6 x 6 king size bed. The room also includes a large walk-in
closet.
The second
room of the house also has an air conditioner and fan along with a
private balcony with a roof high wall cupboard. The room also includes a
bed and large working office table. The third room of the house has its
own fan, roof high cupboard, bed and a working table. There are two
bath rooms with Twyford fitting with a life time warranty and a
servant’s toilet with shower. All doors and windows of the house are
made of teak with a thickness of 1.5 inches with additional iron rails.
The house
is running on a safe system of 3 phases of electricity and a standby 1
kilovolt inverter with 300 ampere batteries. The utility room of the
house is fitted with attic, separate pantry and kitchen. The rooftop
holds a 2000 liter water tank along with a 4000 liter sump under the
indoor garage on the ground floor. The hot water supply to the house is
run on solar power to all bathrooms, pantry and kitchen.
